All students are required to join the course mailing list (only available after August 24th) -- to join, send email to listproc@hawaii.edu, with no subject (and no .signature!), and as contents:
subscribe ics612-l@hawaii.edu your namewhere you should use your actual name (up to 4 words) in place of "your name". Please only send email FROM your hawaii.edu account -- the account from which you send the subscribe request is the account that will be subscribed. I will review the list and I may remove anyone who is subscribed from outside the hawaii.edu domain (I will definitely remove anyone who is not registered for the class). See here if you need help accessing your email on your hawaii.edu account.
I send email to the mailing list with announcements and such. The mailing list should also be used for class-wide discussion on topics relevant to the course. You should feel free to initiate such discussion. This does not mean you should spam the mailing list gratuitously -- discussion should be mature and professional. Appropriate ways of using the list include posting real questions and any answers you may have to others' questions, and initiating discussion or posting comments about technical events that seem relevant to the class. Questions or suggestions about the course notes can be sent to the instructor, or posted to the mailing list as a topic for discussion.
I will assume that anything you submit as a homework or to the mailing list or otherwise as part of this course is not confidential, i.e. may be reviewed by your fellow students and, if appropriate, may be anonymously posted to the web. For example, I may choose to post solutions based on what students have submitted. I will feel free to do this unless you clearly let me know that you would prefer that your fellow students not be given either a specific piece of material, or your communications in general.
